My Culture
This is me. White/Caucasian, blonde hair, green eyes. This is what makes up me and is part of my personal culture.
I was born in the United States of America which makes me a citizen of this country. I was raised in Colorado and I would associate myself with Colorado culture. I love the beauty of Colorado and this has shaped me into a person that loves nature and the beauty of the earth.
Being a member of the LDS church is a part of my culture because it has shaped me who I am. A lot of the things I do are based off of what the church has taught me. My beliefs and what drives me everyday is what I have been taught in this church and it has shaped me who I am.
My family is an important part of my culture because they are the ones that are always there for me and have shaped me who I am today. The person I am is based off of how I spent my time with family and how I value family also has a lot to do with how much time I soent with them as an adolescent.
BYU is where I am receiving my education as a Spanish teacher and therefore plays a big role on how I will teach other students. It has shaped the kind of way that I will teach, or, in other words, my teaching culture.
I am a huge Gator fan. I always go for them when they are playing in any sport. My dad went to this university and so I have grown up rooting for the Gators my whole life. I do feel like it's a part of me.
I love the outdoors. Living in Colorado has made me this way. It has helped me view the world better and on a deeper level than most people. I love campfires and being in the fresh air.
Smart Phones have become a huge part of my culture because it is the way that I communicate with the people that I love. Without it I wouldn't be able to talk to very many people and keep up with them.
Facebook is a big part of my culture because it is the way to communicate and share pictures and messages with people you love. It is a good way to keep in contact with friends who are far away and has helped me to stay in contact with them.
Football is a big part of my culture. A large portion of the country watches football games every week and even plays football. It is a unique part of my culture because no other country in the world plays it as seriously as we do.
Spanish is a big part of my personal culture because I love it and I love to speak it. It has helped me to see a whole new part of the world and has opened my eyes to different cultures and practices.
I absolutely love movies. This has become part of my personal culture because I watch movies so often that it has become part of me. I quote them all the time and I love to watch new movies too. I am easy to please, so I like almost all movies.
Spongebob is part of my culture because I watch it almost always. I love it and I have always enjoyed it. It will always be a part of me.
Snowboarding is one of the things that makes me me. It is part of my culture because it helps me to clear my head and I always make it a point to go every season.
Biking is one of my passions. I have been doing it ever since I was little and it is always a time for me to relax and enjoy the fresh without having to go too far.
Since my family and I have been with Tucanos since the very beginning, I would consider it a part of my culture. My dad started it with his business partner and is therefore the CFO of the company. It has become a part of our family and we have been with it since the beginning.
Playing cards has been a big part of my culture. I always play them with my family every time we get together. I also will play them with friends from time to time.
Holidays are a part of my culture because they are all big parts of my life since those are the times when almost all of my family comes together. It also is a fun time for everyone to be able to celebrate something.
As I was thinking about and exploring my own personal culture I was able to see how many things have shaped me to who I am and who I have become. Each cultural artifact has helped in small ways to help me see who I am and where I come from. I found as well that there are many different things in my life that are actually part of my culture that I didn't really even realize before. Everything that I have learned about my own culture will help me to see the unique qualities about my students in the classroom. It will help me to see that everyone is different and unique and that no one is better than someone else, no matter what their culture is. Knowing my culture will also help me in the classroom to make learning more fun and enjoyable for the students. I don't have to only strictly talk about the subject matter, but also can incorporate what I love and do to help in the learning process.
